Hi everybody, and thank you for tuning in to another of our frequently asked questions. My name is Jim Adler, the tough, smart lawyer. Today, we will be discussing Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder product and its alleged link to ovarian cancer and mesothelioma lung cancer.

Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder is made with a ground version of the mineral talc, which has proven to be contaminated with asbestos in some instances. FDA research found traces of asbestos in some lots of Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder. Asbestos exposure is known to be highly toxic and dangerous. It can also be a factor in both ovarian cancer and mesothelioma cancer.

According to the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer, frequent talcum powder use is linked to a two-fold increase in the risk of ovarian cancer.

Many women that used Johnson & Johnson talc-based baby powder, particularly as a hygiene product applied to the genital area and were diagnosed with ovarian cancer, have filed claims against Johnson & Johnson. The basis of the lawsuit is the failure of the company to warn users regarding frequent use of the product and an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Johnson & Johnson, headquartered in NJ, announced in May 2020 that they would no longer sell their Baby Powder product in the US or Canada; however, it is still available on Amazon.

On June 1, 2021, the Wall Street Journal reported that the supreme court “declined to hear the company’s challenge to a $2.1 billion judgment involving 20 women who alleged talcum powder caused cancer.” This is a setback to Johnson & Johnson and is likely to open the door to more lawsuits against them.

If you or a loved one have used Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder and have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, you may be entitled to compensation and benefits. You should talk to a personal injury lawyer as soon as possible to ensure that your legal rights are protected.
