Pain and Common Car Accident Injuries

Hi there, I’m Jim Adler, the Texas Hammer and welcome back to Hammer TV. If you or someone you know has ever been involved in a car accident, whether it was a minor or major one, you probably also know how easy it is to get injured in a car accident. And, because the human body is such a complex thing, there are many, many different ways in which it can be damaged as well. That’s why, in today’s video, we’re taking a look at some of the most common types of car accident injuries. Let’s take a look…

Car accidents are unfortunately an all too common occurrence in our nation, and they impact families all over every day – in big and small ways. One of the most impactful, and oftentimes the most long-lasting consequences of these accidents is the injuries they leave on the body.
With any accident can come a variety of injuries and medical problems. Some are more common than others depending on the type of vehicle accident that occurred, but all can be traumatic and cause both short and long term pain and suffering. A few of the most common types of car accident injuries include the following:

  1. Whiplash: this type of injury involves irritation to the neck muscles that is caused by the sudden stop of the vehicle in an accident. After the impact, the vertebrae can get pushed out of position and hamper the spine’s ability to absorb any kind of shock or blow to the head, neck, or shoulders. The resulting damage could wind up permanently limiting the victim’s ability to move their head in any direction
  2.  Cuts, scrapes, and bruises: these injuries are fairly self explanatory, and can range from minor to severe.
  3. Soft tissue injuries: often less obvious on the surface like a bruise or cut, these are injuries that occur deep under the skin to parts of the body that are not bone, such as a torn tendon, bruised muscle, or damaged ligament.
  4. Fractures: there are many different types of bone fractures, also commonly called broken bones. They can range from the more minor hairline fractures to severe compound fractures, where part of the affected bone protrudes from the skin.
  5. Spinal injuries: this type of injury is one of the more severe types of car accident injuries as it can be often life-altering in both the short and long term. This injury is any sort of trauma that prevents the bundle of nerves that make up the spinal cord from being able to operate properly. It is most commonly caused by some sort of blow to the neck or back, and its degree of devastation depends on the damage that is done.
  6. Brain or head injuries: similar to spinal injuries, these are often severe and can cause long-term health consequences. They include injuries such as concussions, internal bleeding, skull fractures, traumatic brain injuries (TBIs), and more.
  7. Burn injuries: most commonly occurring in motorcycle crashes, burn injuries range from mild to severe cases and can occur in any type of car accident, if gasoline, oil, or some other flammable material catches fire during the course of the crash. Additionally, chemical burns can result from airbag deployment and friction burns can occur from something like a seatbelt rubbing roughly against the skin during a crash.

Car accident injuries, like those we’ve described, can have serious and detrimental consequences for you and your loved ones, both in the short and long term. And we didn’t even cover psychological injuries, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, which may develop as a result of these accidents as well.

When you or a family member is dealing with serious injuries like these, getting back to normal, or finding a new normal, can feel nearly impossible. This is especially the case if your insurance company is denying your claims or trying to settle your case for less than it’s worth. That’s why it’s so important to have a good lawyer on your side – one who is experienced, understands your case, and will fight with your best interests at heart.
